Guinea Pig Sounds?

It is a fairly decent guideline and a good start. What you have to be aware of is that similar sounds (for us) can have different meanings depending on body language and situational context. Guinea pig society and communication is far more complex than assumed, according to the latest studies.

Loud squealing from underpiggies also signals submission during the dominance phase. It is NOT pain (as often assumed by newbies) but a generally very effective "don't be mean to me!", the same way that nipping is NOT biting, just letting the underpiggy feel the teeth as a gesture of power while establishing the hierarchy without which no piggy society, however small or large, would work.

Thanks for your advice :)

Penelope has been nibbling on our fingers recently, it doesn't hurt & is accompanied with a lot of sniffing & some licking. We haven't had the feeling that she is distressed or angry whilst doing it.

Also if these sounds are correct, she is a whinger lol. She's happy to sit and eat from our hands and have minimal patting before making those little sounds and looking eager to get back to her cage.
