Hello, I’m not sure if this is the right thread, but I have a question. I have a male Guinea pig who’s about 4 and he’s been sleeping in one particular corner a lot. He’s been eating and drinking normally, and he’ll come up to the cage when I do, but he does sleep a lot. Unfortunately he is a lone piggy but I’m getting him a companion this coming Sunday. I’m either thinking it’s because he’s older or it might be loneliness. Any advice?

Hi

I would wait and see how he is with a companion first ; either bonded or - if that fails - as a next door companion through a divider with constant interaction and stimulation. You may find that he suddenly perks up in company and becomes a lot more active. Single piggies are more prone to depression and boredom; they also often have their favourite places for hanging out a lot more than piggies with company.

However, I would recommed to see a vet for a general health check if your weekly health check and weigh-in throw up any concerns or if the new companion is not perking him up.
