Hello all, I am new to posting on this forum but have lurked a little. I wonder if anyone could give some advice. I (well my daughter but she is only 6) have 2 guinea pigs (females) and are looking after a friends (males) for a couple of days. They are of course in there own houses but in the same room. Will they be ok in the room together, they can't see each other but I was worried smelling the others may stress them out? If that is the case one house will have to be moved to another room which isn't ideal but I don't want either set to be stressed

Thanks in advance

Hi there. I would have the boys in another room as they may smell the girls and start to fight. It is best to be safe I say.

That's what I was thinking, I just wasn't sure of they would notice them or not, I'll go move them now :-)

Hi

Welcome to the forum... :(|)

There has been lots of discussion on the forum about having sows near boars, the general opinion seems to be that providing that the boars can't see the sows and you feed, handle the boars first, its usually ok.
We have two boars and they go to a rescue for boarding when we are on holiday, there are many sows there, but there's never been a problem.

Hi, thanks for that. That will be why I couldn't seem to find a definite answer then. I have found all day the boys have been making a deep rumbling purring noise. Something I've never witnessed in my girls this was what made me wonder. In response the girls have been squeaking more than perhaps they normally do. I have shifted boys into front room and left my girls in the dining room where they are used to being :-) ill bear in mind about handling though. We haven't handled the boys yet but will make sure when we do they are first
Thanks again for your advice

Sounds like they're rumble - strutting. It could be a reaction to the ladies, but it could just be them re-establishing themselves in a new environment. My older boar rumbles around swinging his hips every time I change the fleece, like he needs to prove he's still boss even though the cage smells different now!

welcome to the forum!:D i would move the male Guinea pigs to another room,as the males may start fighting for the females as they will smell them :) this is what i have heard, better being on the safe side!:)
