Hi,
Looking for advice from anyone who keeps piggies open in a shed please....

So I’m very excited to be getting a custom build Guinea Pig shed soon and I’m spending lots of time planning it to make it the best I can. It’s got opening windows, stable door, Fox proof mesh, secure attached run, heating, cosy chill out zone ha ha

My current issue is on the flooring..... I know I will be lining it with Lino for easy cleaning and there will get various litter trays and nesting boxes with bedding and hay etc.

But do i put fleece over the whole floor (its 8 by 5 foot) or can the piggies run around on the Lino? My worry is they will wee on the Lino, it won’t soak away and then they will walk through it and get in a mess! I don’t really want to cover the whole floor in a Aubiose as it’s a big space. What does everyone use?
Looking for advice and pictures please

I'd still use some fleece if I were you - to absorb wee. If you haven't had your flooring done yet, please see if you can get it fitted so it goes up the walls for a few inches too.

Inhave lino in my herds c and c cage and find that it quicklybgeys poo and wee stained so I mainly cover it with fleece and newspaper.

We have a lino base for our rabbits and it is very slippery.
I think if you didn't use some sort of covering it would be a skating rink that will quickly become covered in wee and be a right mess.
As the space you have is so large have you thought about diving it up a bit and using different coverings?
Maybe have one third with disposable bedding and large hay piles (so the mess is easy to deal with), one section with newspapers, and one with fleece?

Thanks yes I’ll get the Lino to go up edges slightly. Hopefully that should stop wee getting to wooden floor.

Hmm yes that’s what I was worried about.
Yes I like that idea.
The only section I’d thought of doing differently was the chill out zone in the loft with lots of fleece and cosy beds.
But I like the idea differnet flooring areas on main floor. That could work well!
Thanks

When my pigs were free run in a shed (admittedly small than yours!) I used auboise over ilno and it worked very well, it didn’t take any longer to clean out than my C&C indoors and I only threw away what was soiled. It is certainly doable.
If you use fleece I’d go for several bits than you can swap & change as needed rather than one big piece

Thanks for the ideas. I’ll start stock piling fleece I think!
