Hello I just purchased my first piggies 2 days ago and they are very sweet. They are 8 weeks old. One has a scab I’m not sure what it is but she came with it, any ideas?

Hi, please have your piggy seen by a vet. It could be ringworm or mites, but I'm no expert so I'll tag @Piggies&buns @Siikibam @Wiebke @PigglePuggle who may be able to advise you. Either way, your piggy needs to be seen by a vet for a proper diagnosis and treatment. I hope she's okay and it's nothing too serious 💕🤞

Please have your piggy seen by a vet for diagnosis and prescribed treatment. We cannot tell you exactly what the issue is.

However, as there is a chance it could be ringworm, please ensure strict hygiene of the cage and yourself (including changing your clothes after handling the piggies) as ringworm is highly contagious and can spread to yourself and other animals. It can live in the environment for a couple of years so you really need to hit it hard and correctly first time if it is disgnosed
The guide below explains ringworm including the strict hygiene measures you should take.

Hi

Please have your piggy vet checked for potential ringworm, which is the most contagious species jumping form a fungal skin infection. We can unfortunately only ever guess but not diagnose reliably just from a picture. Please do not home treat on spec.

Here is important information on your customer rights re. the sale of ill, mis-sexed or pregnant guinea pigs and the reimbursement for any resulting vet cost as to how this is handled in different countries. If you have already bought a clearly infected guinea pig, you should have a strong stance when reporting the place to the local council over trading standards: New Guinea Pig Problems: Sexing & Pregnancy; URI, Ringworm & Parasites; Vet Checks & Customer Rights
