Hi guys, I'm looking to change from fleece bedding to a more natural set up and wondered if anyone had any experience using natural clay to make houses and other accessories for their herds. I've found one product on Amazon that might be suitable, but I'm not going to get it if it's going to be toxic if the piggies ingest it. Thanks xx

edit: I can't link to it for some reason :( it's called
Magic Mud Air Dry Clay 3 Pounds-Natural

This is a hard one. I've heard it said not to use clay based kitty litter for piggy bedding as it might cause blockages if ingested. On the other hand many people use clay flowerpots as piggy hideys & these seem to work well without any problems. I haven't heard of anyone's piggy trying to chew a clay pot so far!

That stuff goes soft again with the addition of water. You would really need to glaze and fire whatever you made to make it useable - there are places you can go where you can throw pots etc. which may be able to help.

The previous post mentions using terracotta pots or other glazed plant pots which would be easier and could be incorporated into a natural setup.

Wooden hideys made from raw timber (kind of like a dugout canoe) or woven willow may also look good.

Thanks guys! Yeah, I've been looking into terracotta and glazed plant pots, but they are either really expensive or aren't fit for purpose. I think I may have to stick with wood and willow until I can enroll on a local pottery course.
So as long as its fired and glazed, like the food bowls you can buy, its fine?
