Hey guys recently my guinea pig has been making weird stomach noises since this morning, it sounds like a normal persons stomach then they are hungry or growling, he's done it like 5 times while being up, I did realize when he is sleeping he does it a bit more, it sounds like bubbles it happens more when asleep, He has been acting fine, eating fine and he's still running around and begging me for food and happy squeaking he is not in pain, neither does he seem bloated or puffy its just the stomach noises they are worrying me a lot , he is still pooping and peeing completely fine, all this morning recently his poops have been slightly pointy and soft is there anything I can do? I called the Vet and told me to cut off veggies and fruits only hay and pellets and water and if it continues to take him to the vet, does anyone have any related experience and is this fatal? I'm really worried but he's literally acting like himself, I did take a video as well so you guys can hear it Clearly, I've never ever heard this noise he is a Senior guinea pig too he is 5 years old and 10 months almost 6.

Hi

Please take him off any fresh food for 24-48 hours after the gut microbiome has settled down again. Give some totally freshly made 'poo soup' (i.e. live gut microbiome transfer from a healthy companion not on antibiotics) to help settle down the gut microbiome again.

See a vet promptly if there is bloating or if he suddenly goes flat and gut noises stop altogether (GI stasis).
But hopefully it is just a little tummy upset. The poos will reflect what is happening now over the coming day.

Ok thank you, if he isn't going to have any veggies at all for 1-2 days, how do I give him Vitamin C? I do give him a cookie per day do I Still do that? or will be fine without it.

Hi

There is enough vitamin C in pellets and also a little in hay to tidy your piggies over. You need to wait at least 24 hours after the gut has normalised again befor you can restart veg with ideally a little fresh herb. Then add one more veg with each passing meal for the next 2-3 servings and see how it goes after each new addition. Stop immediately if symptoms return.

All you need to stop is any fresh food so the overgrowth of the wrong kind of digestive bacteria can settle down again. Scurvy symptoms take a lot longer to set it in. Most scurvy cases we see on here (thankfully rarely) are actually generally the result of long term overdosing where the body has totally adapted to the much higher levels and they are not the result of lack of vitamin C but just a dip in very high levels.

Thank you, today he seems way better and his tummy isn’t making noises anymore, outta curiosity do I still wait another full day? Then it’ll be 2 days or can I feed him veggies again? Since he’s back to normal or just wait the 48 hours only asking because he is begging for veggies nonstop

Hi

No noises at all or normal glugging noises when you hold your ear against his belly? If needed, listen first to a companion gurgling away to have a comparison what 'normal' sounds like.

PLease be patient and wait. Also be careful with any reintros of fresh food. The gut microbiome can be still sensitive for a few more days and easily flip again.

I hear small noises only when I put my ear near his tummy is that normal? Also I came back from the Vet, the vet checked his tummy and heard his tummy and said it sounded perfectly fine and how it should be, she did check his breathing as well, saying it was a little fast, I did realize tho whenever my Guinea pig is at the Vet and he gets held while being checked he does get frightened and starts breathing faster could it be that? And I also explained her about the tummy gurgling noises she was saying something that sometimes air can get in the piggy’s tummy and get bloated and can be due to breathing so I am a bit confused, Pinky did have a URI 4 years ago tho and ever since it has never came back ever, I am really surprised that tummy bloating and gurgling noises can also b me related with breathing issues, she gave me a course of antibiotics and wants to see pinky again in 10 days for a check up overall right now he is doing great and I’m gonna keep moderate him, she also weighted him his weight is perfect she said if anything bad happens Just give them a call.
