I have 2 guinea pigs (both female) and one of them tends to run away when petted (she isn’t scared, she only likes to be petted on her terms). She twitches when touched on her sides so I’m guessing she’s either ticklish or just doesn’t like to be touched there. Lately, I’ve been trying to get her used to being petted more (only had them for about 2 months and they are between 4 and 5 months old). I’ve been petting her under her ear by her cheek and she sometimes rumblestruts when I do this, her hips sway and she rumbles but other times she will sort of just lie down. Does anyone have any ideas why she might be rumblestrutting sometimes but lying down other times? She sometimes likes her head being petted as well! She doesn’t stay still for long because she is always full of energy and running away when petted or touched but she quite happily jumps on my knee when I’m sat by her but when I go to pet her she tries to get away haha

So does it mean that she enjoys it when she lies down but when she rumblestruts she is trying to tell me that she isn’t in the mood for it?

Yep, lying down is a sign that they're more comfortable. Sometimes the rumbling can be a 'get off' kind of noise.
