Hi, my pig got GI stasis about 2 weeks ago, we took him straight to the vets and he seemed to recover fully about 3 days after the injection.
Since then he's been eating, moving, drinking fine! So we thought he was fully recovered.
However while he's been back to pooping as frequently as normal, his poops are still quite small and sometimes broken up, this has been the case since he got the stasis (however back then his poops were very infrequent and tiny), they have began over the days to get back to normal size, but after two weeks his poops are still not normal size as they used to be before.
Everything else seems fine with him, we are just unsure why his poops are still small and broken up after nearly two weeks since when he seemed fully recovered.
Is it a problem I should be worried about? Or will he go back to pooping normally soon.
Thanks

Hi!

Have you continued to weigh him daily at the same time in order to monitor his food intake? You can never judge the hay intake (which makes around 80% of what a piggy eats in a day) just by eye. The scales are your best friend during illness and recovery.
Weight - Monitoring and Management

Please also be aware that it may take some time for the gut microbiome to recover from GI stasis. See whether probiotics like fibreplex or poo soup can help. My Beryn is still on them after a suffering either a partial or a very short full GI stasis, followed by bloating and temporary back leg paralysis over the last few days. Things have thankfully started to normalise now but the gut still needs further support with gut meds and probiotics/poo soup in order to stabilise the gut microbiome again.

Gosh @Wiebke i am very sorry to hear about Beryn being so poorly. Hopefully things are heading in the right direction.

@Pengu hope your piggy makes a full recovery. Wiebke's advice will definitely help.

Thank you, Beryn is back to eating fully by herself (if having a similar issue with her poos being still just that bit shorter and a little bit less firm).

She is still being monitored for bloating, but can walk and even run and clean herself again. Her gut support is still ongoing on recommendation of the treating vet. I've just started her on a course of fibreplex.

So pleased to hear that Beryn is doing well. Sending healing thoughts for her and a big virtual hug for you.

Thanks, I'll try weighing him every day incase he's losing any weight. Should I be taking them to the vet if he doesnt fully recover soon?
We've never had a pig illness before so not extremely comfortable making decisions on our own.
Thanks again

As mentioned, weighing him daily is the only way to be sure he really is eating enough.
If you are ever worried then absolutely return to your vet, they would much rather check something out if you are concerned than leave it.
