So my 4 year old guinea pig was breathing very heavily and had a runny nose so we took him to an emergency vet and they told us he has very severe phenomena and that there is a chance he may die but they’ve given us inflammatory medication to give him 0.2ml every evening and 4ml of antibiotics to give him on an evening as well but if anyone has any tips to make him more comfortable and to help him breathe better please let me know x

So sorry to hear this. Do you have antibiotics to give daily?
where are you located please? We may be able to suggest a vet.
It may be worth asking the vet for a diuretic to help get fluid off lungs.

Hi and welcome!

Heavy breathing from the sides is unfortunately a serious symptoms. It means that either the lungs are fluid filled (pneumonia) or the chest cavity (heart failure) or that something is pushing on the lungs or the heart so they struggle to keep going. Pneumonia can happen right out of the blue unfortunately. :(

Can you please tell us exactly what medication (name and dosage) you have been given?

You can try and see whether a bowl of steaming water next to the cage will help a little.

Here are our emergency crisis and bridging care tips all collected together in one thread: Emergency, Crisis and Bridging Care until a Vet Appointment

All the best!
