Hi

I have had my piggies nearly a week now, they now know my voice and are a lot less resistant when I hold them as Bubbles sat on my lap happily for an hour yesterday! I received a pen this morning for them to have fun in, I just wanted to know if it was too early to have them out of their cage, whether I should give them a treat when they're in their pen so that they know they're being good or literally just try it out and see what happens?

I appreciate any advice you can give!

Thanks x

Have you got any hides and toys in your cage that you could transfer or create some from shoe- or soap or other carboard boxes? You may not see too much of them for the first time of so, but they would be happier, if they could explore new territory from a "safe" refuge...

Putting a bath towel over part of the pen will also give them a feeling of security, as birds of prey are one of them main dangers for guinea pigs, so they prefer to be as much under cover when in a new place - instincts go deep!

It they are just sitting in the hide, serve a little treat nearby, so they have to come out a bit. Dotting little treats around the pen is not a bad way of encouraging them to explore! They will get bolder with each subsequent outing.

I have got a shoe box that I will cut the side out of so they can go in there. I will also put a towel over the side! Thank you for your advice I will let you know how I get on!
