Hi everyone!

I'm a relatively new piggy mum and I’m just wondering how much I should feed my 2 boys? On the pellets we get, it says 35g per pig a day but they get through it very quickly, I’m talking about 4-5 hours sometimes! I’m wondering if they need a constant supply of pellets or we can limit them to just 35g a day.

They are around 4 months old and we also provide them wirh hay and leafy vegetables every day.

Thank you x

No, they shouldn’t have a constant supply. Pellets should be kept strictly limited to one tablespoon per pig per day. Pellets bridge any gaps in nutrition to ensure all their needs are met, but they aren’t terribly healthy for them to have. Too many pellets can contribute to excess calcium in the diet which can be a cause of bladder stones.

My piggies get their tablespoon in the morning. One tablespoon amounts to just a few grams of the pellets I use (probably about 10g if that). They then get half an hour/45 minutes to eat them and then I remove anything they haven’t eaten, and they don’t get any more until the next day. This ensures that they are filling up on hay which is the best thing for their overall health

A handful each a day..probably a dessert spoon in my hands..it is hay as Piggies says above is the unlimited factor!
