About 2 weeks ago my 1 year old guinea pig Kate was having some really bad issues with peeing, there were many small spots of pee that contained a white substance and was squealing in pain pretty badly. We gave her plenty of water cucumber and juicy fruits and in the matter of about 1-3 days it resolved on its own and she no longer was in pain while peeing. In fact after those days she peed the most i’ve ever seen any guinea pig pee in my life.

As of posting she seems to have a little bit of pain peeing and she’s pretty angry when i take her out. I feel like it will resolve on its own again but does anyone know what the issue is?

White spots in the pee is calcium deposits.
Excess calcium is excreted in the urine - that’s normal. However if fhe deposits are gritty or are causing pain then it can be sludge/crystals are present. They are painful and can be the precursor to stone formation.

She needs to see a vet for this issue particularly if she is in pain.

Please check her diet to ensure you aren’t feeding too many pellets - just one tablespoon per pig per day; ensure water is filtered; ensure high calcium veg is kept limited (veg such as spinach, kale, parsley) to no more than once a week.
Most calcium comes into the diet via pellets and is water.

Please do not feed fruit and not in excess. The sugars in them can cause health issues.
A very small piece of fruit as a very occasional treat is fine - but no more than one small amount once a week.

I’ve added a guide below
