Hi everyone this is my first post on here so apologies if I make any mistakes, my guinea pig had general anaesthetic and got his tooth filed down last monday and he hadnt eaten anything except grass and cucumber so I took him to the vet on friday and they have given him metacam, cisapride, anti depression medication and critical care. He is now eating hay, spinach and cucumber. The vet said if he doesnt start eating by friday they are going to put him under general aesthetic again and take blood which is a lot riskier. He also hates having critical care, it takes two people to feed it to him and he does absolutely everything he can to make sure it doesn’t go anywhere near him. Is there anything i can do to make him start eating again?

Please switch from the routine weekly weight checks and instead weigh him daily. This is your only guide to ensure your piggy is eating enough hay or syringe feed in each 24 hour period.
If he doesnt like critical care, then you can use his normal pellets and mush them up with water and then syringe that to him. It can help as the taste is more familiar. Or you could also try a different recovery feed use as Emeraid rather than critical care.
