Hi I need help so basically my mom was cleaning them and as usual the guineas are skittish and she’s not sure what happened but the next thing she nose my Lily’s nose is bleeding and she wheeked. There was blood everywhere as shown on the pictures but where there was most blood was on the corner of the ramp where they have bitten (so it’s sharp as shown on the picture) but it doesn’t look that sharp so I’m not sure if she ran into it. But my mom was done with cleaning them so they had all their space to roam. So I’m not really sure what happened. What do I do? She’s breathing fine so no blood clogging her nose and no more bleeding and she’s cleaned up.

Hi

It sounds like she could have caught/cut her nose on the sharp bit of the ramp.

Please gently dab the nose with saline solution. You make it by mixing 1 teaspoon of salt into 250 ml of boiled water and apply when cool. It is a mild disinfectant that you can make at home in an emergency and that is safe for guinea pigs.

Please see how she is tomorrow and see a vet promptly if there is more bleeding or she has breathing issues or if the area is hot to the touch, swollen and infected looking.

File the sharp bit of the ramp down and ensure that they cannot injure themselves again.

I’m glad it’s stopped bleeding and she seems ok.
