Our guinea pigs regularly make this noise while sitting on our laps. They generally sit fairly still or climb up and nuzzle under our necks and don't look distressed, but we can't work out whether the sounds mean they are happy or unhappy about being that close to us and our of their cage.
Is this sound chutting or something else?
Thanks for any suggestions.

One of mine does this when the other more dominant one is nosing round them. I've always interpreted it as chatting but saying, 'I'm no threat to you' if that makes sense. It would seem the natural response to a much bigger 'piggy'!

Try tickling under the chin and gently stroking the cheeks - mine like this and raise their heads to let you stroke then there 💕
