Hi, two weeks ago I had one of my guinea pigs neutered, how long is it till I can put him in with the girls?

Hello, please wait the full 6 weeks before you introduce him to your girls. Even at 5 weeks there can be some live semen remaining. By waiting the full 6 weeks you are certain to avoid an unwanted pregnancy. Wiebke has a gorgeous piggy who was the unexpected baby as a result of a boar being introduced 5 weeks post neutering (not by her I hasten to add)

I know lots of people had said six weeks but wasn't even sure that was long enough as people have had unexpected baby piggies even five weeks after :-)

You can always wait longer if you want to. But 6 full weeks should be ample. I know what you mean, though. I waited til my Mr Ted was 6 weeks and 5 days just to be safe!

While my Tegan (the little baby in my avatar) was born courtesy of an over 5 weeks post-op boar and I have heard of some more cases since, I have yet to hear of an over 6 weeks pregnancy despite this wait being practised by all good guinea pig rescues in this country for years now - and that means several hundred of neutered boars. If there was an incident, believe me, it would make the rounds like wildfire!
