Hi everyone! So I last made a post about my guinea pig chuck and that he's not gaining weight. Great news tho he went today and he's finally 1kg! Still some to gain but this is HUGE.

The issue is, he's still on emeprid, metacam, critical care and just finished a dose of probiotics today. His poop is still very mushy. I got the go ahead to split his metacam dose to twice a day and monitor to see if the weaker dose still leaves him in pain or covers him for the whole day.

I just don't know what else I can do about his mushy poop. It's like cow pies, there are a few formed ones every now and then but it's still pretty bad. Any advice or ideas on how to help?

Also his brother has a chest infection, was on Baytril but switched to another I don't recall the name right now and don't have it on me. Is chuck susceptible to picking this up too? Any advice on how to help ease a chest infection? No other symptoms, no runny nose or eyes. Just wheezy and a tad irritable but Devito has always been a bit of a grump.

Thank you guys, for the last post and all your well wishes and advice. He seems to be doing a lot better just needs pain management and his poops to sort themselves.

Apologies your post has been missed.

Regarding the probiotics, he does not need to have finished his dose - he should continue having a probiotic as long as he is having soft poops.
Have you removed veg from the diet?

How long has Devito been on the new antibiotic?
A respiratory can be transmitted to other piggies but they have already been in contact with each other so we would not advise you to separate them.

Ah great, it didn't seem like the probiotic done anything though but I'll start him on another dose!
Yes months ago we removed veg and gradually introduced them. Nothing changed, nothing worked. No idea what's wrong with his bowel and unfortunately we don't have exotic pets here.

Devito started the new antibiotic on Wednesday but was sick for I'd say a week before that. He still has a bit of a wheeze and this antibiotics is running low so I'm going to see if he needs round two. But it's definitely helping. Chucky has no symptoms thank god.
