Hello this is my second post. I have two guinea pigs around the same age, both with mites. I've had one for 4 years and one for a few months.

They have both been to the vet a month ago and I gave them revolution but that didn't seem to work. I've also tried FOOD GRADE diatomaceous earth and it's better but not gone. If I need to take them back to the vet I will, I'll be calling them tomorrow. But what else can the vet give me to get rid of them and also is there anything else I can do?

Do you know if they hay mites or mange mites?

I’m not sure if revolution works differently, but The normal course of treatment we use here in the UK is xeno 450. It’s given as a course of three separate treatments with two weeks between each treatment. This is because treatment only kills the active mites and not the eggs. So the first treatments given to kill the mites. The second treatment is given to kill the new mites that were eggs at the first treatment and the third treatment is a fail safe.
You also need to throw away any opened packs of hay and disinfect the cage with a good strong disinfectant. We recommend and use F10 in the UK.

Let us know what the vet says tomorrow

The guide below explains

Not sure the vet didn't specify. Revolution is given once a month. I've heard of xeno 450 and I was a bit worried revolution wouldn't work as well because it was once a month. I started doing the diatomaceous earth (food grade) once a week when the revolution wasn't showing much improvement and that was much better but they still itch a bit too much.
