Candyfloss was making strange honking noises this morning.... I have never heard her make those noises before! It sounded like she had a blocked nose or something and then she sneezed really loudly (it didn’t sound like a normal guinea pig sneeze). I checked her nose and eyes, they seem fine, but she has been sneezing quite a few times this morning. She is acting normally and Poppy is fine.
I think she might have a cold? Is it something to be worried about? Should I take her to see a vets?

Guinea pigs don’t get colds.
They have narrow airways so anything in the airways sounds quite loud. Normally a sneeze will clear anything irritating the nose. If the breathing still sounds strange or noises afterwards, and continues sneezing (more than what is normal), is accompanied by other symptoms, then do see a vet in case it is the start of a respiratory infection. It’s always best to be checked out and it be nothing, than not check at all

One of my guinea pigs had this a while ago, and we took him straight to the vet. He got antibiotics and she said that if we would have waited it might have been fatal. In our case it sounded like weird breathing, dont know how to better explain it in words :). I've been told lung issues are quite common in guinea pigs, and they can be quite dangerous. It's always better to be safe than sorry, so if the sounds continue I would take them to a vet.

Please don't panic as eating too fast can cause a piggy to honk and sneeze for a while, but if this lasts more than a couple of hours do please see a vet in the next couple of days as it could be the start of a respiratory infection, and in some cases these can get worse quite fast, and antibiotics would be needed.

Thank you 😊
