Hello there.

Unfortunately a lot of my Guinea pigs have passed away. The most recent sibling Hope passed away a couple days ago and now this leaves Pete on his own. Pete is 4yr old in June.

I personally don’t want anymore Guinea pigs as they’re great pets and don’t want to keep on doing the cycle of introducing more Guinea pigs. So I want to stop owning Guinea pigs.

however i've noticed that Pete is missing his sibling as he's more restless and sleeping more and stopped drinking water so I don’t feel it’s right to keep him living on his own.

i feel like the best desicion is to rehome him but I also want to know if this is the better option for him?

I’m so sorry for your loss.

At his age he could have three or four years ahead of him which is far too long to be alone.
If you really do not want any more pigs at all, then rehoming him is in his best interest. It is a hard thing to do but it is an act of love to put long term his needs above the upset of rehoming.

The other option is to see if a rescue centre near you will help. You essentially ‘borrow’ a pig from a rescue centre to see out Pete’s life and then return the pig to the rescue once Pete passes away ( this Pete sees out his life with a companion and you end your piggy cycle). This can be that Pete and the foster pig are properly bonded and live together in the same cage or that they live side by side.
