Hello everyone!

My 6 year old piggy, Paco, woke up today with a head tilt. He can stand okay, but when he tries to walk, he falls over. About 2 years ago, he had an ear infection and that ear has seemed to bother him a bit ever since. He has been able to eat some hay.

I'm just incredibly worried about him. Our local vet isn't open until tomorrow. The nearest emergency vet is 2 hours away. I can't decide whether he can wait until morning or if I should make the drive. Does anyone have any experience with this? I don't want to make the wrong choice and potentially lose my piggy when I maybe could have saved him.
:( Any advice would be appreciated!

It would be best to be seen as soon as possible. But only if the emergency vet is experienced with guinea pigs. Since he's got a history of ear infections it is probably related. But of course it could also be something else.
I always try to avoid emergency vets who are not cavy savvy because they can do more harm than good in my personal experience.
But if you trust the emergency vet I would go there today.

The emergency vet does specialize in guinea pigs it just sucks that it is two hours away. But if it could mean he would be okay it would all be worth it. I bet the bouncing of the car would be rough for him though. I think that is what I will do. I'll let you guys know what happens :)

So yesterday right when I was about to leave for the emergency vet, Paco stopped falling over and only had the head tilt. He started to perk up so I called the emergency vet and they said as long as he was eating and drinking, we could wait until tomorrow.

This morning we went to our local vet and they said he had a pretty bad ear infection, which I had suspected. I'm just glad it wasn't a neurological issue. I have two antibiotics, vertigo medicine and an ear ointment for him. He's going to be okay so that's good!

Thanks to you all for your input :)
