Hi all!

My guinea pigs just moved in with me after having to stay with my mum whilst I completed my studies. I was giving them some more hay this morning and spotted this on a few of the pieces. I've done some research and seen people say it's absolutely fine but I get a bit paranoid about making sure everything is completely safe for them.
Would anyone be able to let me know if this hay is okay?
Thank you!

Just give the hay in the bag a good sniff. It should smell sweet like honey and not damp and musty. If it smells like honey then everything is good and you can feed it to your piggies. If it smells damp and musty, chuck it and get some more.

What were you studying?

Great, thank you so much! It was in a cardboard box from hay barn and it smells completely fine, quite nice and fresh, not at all musty.

I did an MA in Conservation of Cultural Heritage:)

Congratulations on your MA.
That sounds very interesting.

Re the hay, I agree with @Betsy .
I recently dumped a bag of hay because it smelled musty.

Ah, thank you!

Great, thank you so much! Since it's smelling completely fine I'm going to assume all is okay and the can carry on eating it
