I noticed yesterday that Truffles can't wheek very loudly like she used to (e.g. when she heard a bag rustling) but instead makes a raspy sound, like she's trying to wheek but nothing comes out. She's almost 5 and I've read that they can lose their wheek with age but I'm not sure if that's true. Other than that she seems healthy and is eating and playing normally.

She is hopefully going to the vet tomorrow but I just wanted to see if anyone else had experience with this to ease my worry until then. Thank you :)

I forgot to add: she can still make noises at a lower volume but it's when she wheeks loudly she seems to lose her voice.

I think a check up is in order at the vets to be on the safe side. Get the vet to listen to her lungs and chest, make sure no fluid there or a possible URI starting up

Let us know how she gets on

I've a few pigs that had it happen too. One of my current boys has a very sorry wheek compared to his younger days.

Like sport_billy mentions though it's good to get them an MOT every now and then. I do it with my boys.

Thank you both for your help! I will let you know how she gets on

Hmm, my boar Cocoa has lost his wheek twice, but it came back fter a week or so. The first time nothing happened, but the second time it was because he had an infection. It came back after the first round of antibiotics though.

oh bless, I have a lady who can't wheek but she has never been able to since I've had her. You can see her try but she's gaining weight and behaving like a normal piggy lol
