Hi, My Guinea pig Paige (5 years old) keeps losing hair, this is has been going on for some time. I’ve taken her to the vet which they prescribed ointment for mites. This hasn’t worked, she eats fine but I’ve noticed she drinks a lot, her stomachs makes noises, She squeaks for food but it’s air no noise (if that makes sense) and overtime looks like she’s getting skinnier.

The vet didn’t help, but I though I’ll at least try this forum.

Oh dear, that does look bad, poor little one!
I'm not a medical expert, but I don't think ointment is the best thing for mites. The usual is drops that you put on the skin on the back of the neck.
There's also the possibility that it might not be mites. Really it needs a good vet to investigate properly. Whereabouts are you? (UK/USA?)
One of the medical experts should be able to help more in due course. Hope you can get her better soon!

I'm sure one of our health experts will be along shortly.

Has she had blood tests?
Is her skin red/itchy/inflamed?
Does she have a cage mate? Are they displaying any symptoms?

Do you weigh her regularly? Maybe start weighing her daily as this way you can truly monitor her food intake.

If she is losing weight you may need to step in with syringe feeding.

I've seen some hamsters in a similar situation and it's turned out they have Cushing's but I understand it's somewhat rare in pigs. However, I'm not experienced enough nor am I in the veterinary field so by no means a diagnosis (which we can't do anyway).

Hopefully you will find out what's causing it and she'll be fine.

I just saw you posted a thread previously in 2020 about Paige. Are you still in Wiltshire, and was it the same vets this time as you consulted originally back in 2020? I noticed you felt they weren't very cavy savvy on that occasion.

I can only suggest you find a savvy vet and have further investigations carried out.
I hope you can find out what is causing such severe hair loss.

I’m based in the UK, She is on her own due to her sister dying. Could this be a cause overtime?
