Hello,

My guinea pig showed a problem with his eye yesterday night, so I booked an appointment with the vet, but the appointment isn't until 3 days later, so I was wondering if there was anything I can do for him until the appointment. The symptoms my guinea pig has are wet eyes, puffy eyes, red eyes, and not being able to open his eyes properly. The way he's acting is no different from before, and he is still eating and drinking fine. He also has a history of fatty eyes.

Is it possible for you to get an earlier, emergency appointment? Eyes are classed as emergencies and he really should be seen sooner than three days time. Prompt treatment can make all the difference with eyes. The vet doesn’t have to be an exotic specialist, it can be a general vet.

I've called 14 vets in total, and all are booked until January to February, or they don't see guinea pigs and will not take them in. The vet I scheduled an appointment with was also an urgent care request. I also wish I can get him to a vet faster, but there's just no vet that would see him.

Do you know if putting something like saline solution or terramycine in his eye would help him until he gets to a vet?

I’m afraid i can’t answer that because i don’t know what is wrong. if you add something and it is the wrong thing, then it could make matters worse. All i can suggest is that you keep trying and call vets every day and see if one has an appointment become available.

Ask them to contact you if they happen to have a cancellation

I went to the vet, and they gave some eye drops for his eyes. I think its slowly getting better.
I also had a small question that I was hoping someone could answer... my guinea pig also had a runny nose, so I also asked the vet to check for an upper respiratory infection. They told me he had a small cold, which they treated with a vitamin C shot. However, it doesn't seem to be getting better, and the vet I went to was also not my primary vet, and had some bad stories surrounding it. Does anyone know what upper respiratory infections are supposed to be treated with.... Is it really treated with just some vitamins? Plus, when I received him from the vet, he had a bloody nose, which the vet brushed off, as simply a sign of stress. I wondering if I should just try visiting another vet again;;;

I would visit another vet. Guinea pigs don’t get colds. Rather they have URIs. It’s treated with antibiotic. A vitamin c shot won’t do anything at all. Get him booked in soon as you can. Good luck.

Okay, thank you so much.
