I just noticed a couple of days ago that my Guinea pig’s ear was starting to twitch. I’m not sure if the video uploaded, but it shows a few clips of when this happens. I’m concerned that it might be an ear infection, so we are deciding whether or not to see a vet. Also, as you can see from the pictures below, her ear started to get redder. And in the last picture, (I know it’s hard to see) she has a small white dot in the middle of her ear. If you have any idea of what this could be, please reply. Thanks

Hi

Ear twitching can happen when piggies sleep and dream. In itself it is not to worry unless it happens constantly over more than a day and comes increasingly with other signs of irritation or pain (pawing, head shaking, head tilt etc.)
It can be something irritating in the ear, wax etc.
But please never pour any liquid into the ear on spec; you can make the problem easily much worse and can cause real pain by clogging up the ear.

Guinea pigs regulate their body temperature via increased blood flow through their extremities but especially the ears.
Red ears mean that your piggy is feeling a bit warm and is shedding heat. Pink feet can look very red all over and a little swollen through the increased blood flow. We humans sweat instead.
You need only worry if the red patch is very localised, swollen and sore looking; hot to the tough but only the red area and not the rest of the ear and it doesn't just disappear again when your piggy is no longer feeling hot.

A tiny spot of white on the ears is generally a sign of fungal. In your case, it is very minor as you have obviously only detected it when you had a very close look at the ears.
I would recommend to not panic and just keep an eye on it. See a vet only if other signs connected with real discomfort as mentioned above appear and the discomfort is becoming clearly stronger and persistent.

Our forum is entirely run by voluntary member donations. This means that we do not have a video upload since we are not part of social media (which has some major advantages). You will need to upload any videos on a public setting social media that are accessible to everybody without registration and then copy it across into our forum post.

I ope that this helps you?

One of my piggies has ears that twitch all the time, and on occasion gets dry skin too. Usually nothing to worry about, usually
