Hi, today around 2pm my Mom told me my guinea pig (Apple) started drooling and making weird coughing/sneezing sounds. I rushed home and brought him to the vet. Got there around 3pm and he died within 10 minutes at the vet. They were great and gave him oxygen but he got worse so quickly. I don’t understand how this could have happened, I thought he was choking on something I couldn’t see or it was a problem with his teeth.

He was really old around 7, but that morning he was eating his morning carrot, pellets, hay, water and even climbed up his cage to get his apple slice the night before. He was smaller then he used to be because we had to lower his veggies due to his poos getting funny. But this was due to his age. I’m in shock and I don’t know how this could have happened especially since he was normal that morning.

The vet said it was possibly heart and lung failure but I just don’t know how this could have happened in an hour.

I am so sorry you lost your little piggie. It must have been such a shock for you but sadly this can happen. Take heart you gave him a lovely life and he will have known just how much you loved and cared

Popcorn high Apple 🌈

Prey animals are very good at hiding health issues sadly. Often to their detriment. Sounds like lung issues to me too. I'm very sorry for your loss. Please know there is nothing you likely could have done, other than what you did. I had a pig go to the vet ER and he passed after we got home. When we got there he was weak but mostly himself. When they took him back for tests, afterwards he couldn't even stand up. He passed on our bed laying between us an hour later. Autopsy said URI, but he showed zero signs before that day. Try to think about the happy times, it helps.

I’m so sorry you have lost Apple. He had a wonderful long and happy life with you filled with love. ❤️

Popcorn high over the bridge Apple.

I'm really sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, I've lost several pigs just as quickly, particularly in old age. They are good at hiding symptoms and something like heart failure can come on very suddenly. I'm so sorry you lost Apple, many ((HUGS)) to you. He lived to a ripe old age and I'm sure you gave him a wonderful life.
