I have had guineas for α long time and I recently got Burt and Ernie (my 10th piggies) from the adoption bit in pets at home last sunday. Today i go to feed and water and Bert is dead? In less then α week of owning them. I want to talk to pets at home because it was so unexpected. Do you think i can get α refund?

So sorry for the loss of your boy. It must have been a shock. As he was from the rescue I’m not sure if he would be classed as if he was on the shop floor. You would be best to contact p@h to see what they say.

I'm sure if you speak to them they will do something as they all should be healthy when sold

Hi

I am very sorry!

Are they indoors or outdoors piggies? We currently have cold nights again and they haven't been used to that coming from a shop.
Sudden deaths can happen at any time in life but stress situations like the move to a new home can contribute to an already existing underlying problem.

Thank you and he was on the shop floor previously but he got ringworm but was cured and was 5 months old when sold to me. He didn’t get ringworm again as one of my other guineas got it once and he didn’t have any sign of it

Sadly only a post-mortem examination at the vet may be able to give you the answer you crave. It is very hard to make sense of what has happened when you haven't been able to brace for it. Unfortunately we often can't get those answers.

Both piggies I have lost this year so far have died unexpectedly out of the blue. One simply didn't wake up from their afternoon nap for no obvious reasons (she'd been ticking along nicely) and the other was lying on the floor in the morning still with hay sticking out from the mouth after a sudden massive heart attack sometime in the night or very early morning. :(

You may find the grieving guide link in my first post helpful, as it specifically addresses these aspects.

Could it be α possibility that Ernie (his housemate) killed him as Bert kept Barbering him and Ernie was getting α bit mad and Bert had bite marks and hair missing on his body :(

Guinea pigs don't kill each other. Full stop.

Your boys were either fighting due to lack of space/dysfunctional relationship or Bert had some more serious skin problems. :(
Have you have had them vet checked if they have arrived in a less than pristine state or separated them asap if those wounds were fresh?

We strongly recommend a vet check even for seemingly healthy piggies (which piggies with hair loss and wounds are not) that do not come from a good standard rescue with mandatory quarantine/vet care and high welfare standards which check any bonds for their stability before putting them up for adoption and provide settling in support?
Pet shop adoption centres most definitely do NOT fall under that category.

I had them both out the day before Bert died and no hair was missing at all. When i went to check on them Bert had passed away and fur was missing. I have noticed today one of my other piggies has α bit of hair missing from his backside. It dosen't seem like ringworm as i've experienced ringworm with one of them before but i'm going to try and get him into the vets but they are closing because of coronavirus.

Thanks for clearing that up; it is very difficult to make any educated guesses without having the full picture.

In this case you are dealing with Ernie's attempts to desperately trying to revive Bert; that is actually not uncommon. Sometimes piggies can nibble deeply right down to the bone in their desperation. :(

Try to take consolation that the end must have come very quickly, gently and totally unexpectedly for Bert; and that he can't have suffered for any length of time. Companions usually know when their mate is ill; they generally react very differently to a passing that they know is impending.

Concentrate on taking care of Ernie. He is currently very upset and grieving himself.

It is likely that he was living with a genetic timb bomb in his heart if he was a runt. :(
