Hi everyone

My boy Carlos had been neutered last Saturday. The surgery was successful but one concern is that vet put cone collar on him and that is really irritating him.
The vet said to keep it for 2 weeks until his stiches are taken so he will not try lick or cut stiches by himself.
its been 4 days after the surgery - I went to the post check today and he lost weight more than 50g in past 4days. (I should have a scale but my one didnt work very well so I'm waiting for a new one now)

The vet said its very much expected due to the cone and after surgery stress, and he suggested should keep the cone on as he is still eating. (He gave Carlos IV today caz I insisted)
He eats veges in fact but he eats less hay and pellets. He drinks but not as much as usual. And that is I think due to the cone
and I believe it should be taken off asap.

I am not a vet so I am a little worried that vet was right and he tris to take the stiches off during the night time or when no one is at home...but at the same time cone isnt very common for this forum for guinea pigs as far as I can see.

Could anyone give me any advice?

It is not recommended to put cones on piggies. They must be able to reach round to their bottom to eat their poops.

Piggies generally only try to chew at stitches if they are irritated and are not being given adequate pain relief. A piggy who is comfortable will not touch stitches. Is he being given pain relief?

Please step in and syringe feed him now he has lost more than 50g and if he doesn’t eat more for himself once the cone is removed

Thank you for your reply! Noted then i will take it off.
Yes he has pain relief until this Saturday. I will take him to the vet again on next Sunday so i think i can get some more if he feels irritation still.
Also thanks for a syringe feed advice too, I will do!
