I was bathing my guinea pig as i do every night, due to the fact she pees on herself and she can get urine scalds. She is used to this now, but whilst she was having her bath she collapsed, her tongue was hanging out i quickly warmed her up. Her colour went very pale and her respiration rate went up to 160. she is eating a little bit now but very slowly, which is strange as she LOVES her food. I phoned the vets who had nothing of mush use to say. Can anyone give any advise?

Oh my, so sorry to hear, i hope someone on here can give you advise

Thinking you and your little one

I would definately call a vet to have a chat with them. What happened after she collapsed, did she 'freak out' when you touched her or make any jerky movements or did she just slowly recover and get back on her feet? Has she got a head tilt?

Maybe you could ring a local guinea pig rescue centre and ask them if they know of any vets that specialise or are very good with guinea pigs.

I hope you and your piggie are okay!

Do you give her a full bath every night? I'd be worried this was seriously drying out her skin. I can see why a bum bath might be necessary but not a full bath?

I would see if you could get another vet opinion - perhaps in person rather than over the phone.

Awww... hope that your piggie is alriteeee. *hugs*

I've seen from some forum about bathing piggies.. the vet said that actuallie u dun need to bath piggies unless they are dirtie at the bottom.
Or else u can just do it with dry-bath powder.

i used to bath mocha becos he got wet bottom... i guess it may be due to infection or UTI.. so better send your piggie to the vet quick and hope he will be fine!

Do not use dry powder on gps.Use a mild herbal shampoo just on the backside.

i don't like the dry shampoo, never used it it seems stuffed full of chemicals :-\ Gorgeous guineas do nice ones O0
how's you girlie doing? :-\
