Hi I'm considering getting a cage mate and I've seen some guinea pigs at a rescue with wire hair, I think these are called Rex, can I ask if anyone knows about the care these guineas nights need with specialist hair etc.

Thanks

Rex piggies do not need any extra care. How exciting to be adopting a new piggy!

Rex and related teddy breeds do not need any special care.

Aw, I had to look up a Rex Guinea Pig. So cute! Good luck with the adoption x

I have a Rex piggie and she is gorgeous, friendly but quite shy :D I find her very cuddly because she's all fuzzy like a bumblebee (hence the name Bumble!)

Absolutely no different to other pigs in terms of care!

Congrats on the new addition :yahoo:

I have a pair of teddies which I believe are a rex type breed. I've found them very easy to care for - no extra special care required, good first time piggies :)

Brush them once a week and wash them once a month :)

My teddy doesn't need baths that often either... She doesn't seem to get smelly or dirty so it doesn't justify the trauma haha!

I had a Rex (Mycroft) and he didn't need any extra care coat wise. However both myself and my husband turned out to be allergic to him due to his coat. Luckily I was only mildly effected so cuddles and grooming were still possible, however my husband had a serious asthma attack if he held him etc.

We had intended to keep him and his half brother at indoor pigs, but we had to house them outside when we twigged what was making my OH so ill. So a word of caution - double check you're ok with this coat type if you have allergies and intend to keep them as house pets.
