One of the new guinea pigs I got (her name is Cupcake) keeps climbing on top of her hay feeder. I’m worried that I’ll go to bed at night and then wake up with her feet stuck in her feeder. Does anyone have any advice on how to get her to stop doing that? Right now I have the feeder higher up than it was and put some hay on the floor underneath it, but I want to get it back down without fear of Cupcake climbing in.

Yes. They like to lie, eat, run through, pee and poo in it. You’d be amazed how much happier they will be with a pile of it. And yes, pee and poo is add flavour 😃 you can’t avoid wastage, it’s part of piggy ownership.

You can put the hay in a litter box, as well. I find that they help with the mess just a bit! :)

I agree - use either a low sided cat litter tray or just put the hay on the floor.
Mine just have huge hay piles on the floor and they love nothing more than foraging through it and sleeping in it. Mine eat so much more without it being in a rack

I have fleece haybags hung over tray filled with hay and one of my boys pulls the hay from the haybag so he has a huge pile of it :)) I still use haybags just to ensure they have fresh hay 24/7.
Some cages have hay feeders which attach from the outside of the cage.
I think she's telling you she wants a haybed! I buy bedding hay (meadow hay) from local country store in a bale. It works out cheaper and no plastic. And then they have Timothy hay just for feeding.

I really don’t trust hay feeders. Piles of hay on the floor is the best and most natural way of feeding. I find that feeders can reduce hay eating/chewing (piggies can be lazy) and could potentially result in dental issues down the line.
