I have been to the vet for this a couple of weeks ago, since I wasn't sure if he was choking or coughing. The vet didn't find anything alarming, but he prescribed antibiotic. He lost a little bit of weight then and his poo was a little weird for just a couple days. Now his weight and poo is normal. I am weighting him every day and his weight is stable.

The only thing that worries me now is that he keeps choking on food and water and he moves his body forward like he is going to vomit multiple times. I know that they don't vomit but that is how it looks like. He does this for a couple of seconds and then he is fine, back to eating or drinking. Sometimes he keeps chewing while doing it. His teeth were checked also. The vet said that he is chewing his food ok.

Is there a way to prevent this from happening. I get seriously worried when I see him like this. He was doing it less often before, now almost daily. If the food gets stuck, how can I help him?

Hi

Your boy sounds like he could be one of those greedy eaters and drinkers that are swallowing a lot of air when gulping their food down? Most top speed gobblers have a coughing fit but some can get what is graphically described as 'heaving hiccups'.
Rodents don't have a vomit reflex.

It is hopefully going to sort itself out in a little while. There is no lasting damage.

:agr: I have one of those very greedy eater piggies who stuffs her mouth full and sounds like she’s choking. We are now used to it but it can be alarming to hear if you’re unfamiliar with it.

Seems that its not serious then. I was worried that he might be in pain, but yes it does look like hiccups. Only more prominent, like he is trying to cough something out.
