guinea pig chewing on cage bars.

Sometimes chewing on the cage bars is a way to keep their teeth down as guinea pig teeth never stop growing. It can indicate that you’ve not got enough for them to gnaw on in the cage but sometimes it’s just they like gnawing on the cage bars. I know mine do even though I have like 6 gnaw sticks in there...🙄
 
One of my guinea pigs use to gnaw at the bars. I noticed they stopped when I expanded they're cage drastically so it was probably because their space was too small or they are just trying to keep their teeth down as guinea pig teeth never stop growing. They also stopped when I gave them more toys to chew on.
Your cage looks pretty big from the photo however, so I am sure that is not the problem!
 
Some do it for attention or when its feeding time. My Rory used to do it whenever I was in the shed but not touching him !
But its often considered something bad, your pig might be bored or have too little space, just try different things and see if he stops
(i cant see any pictures!)
 
I think they may be talking about me. Cause I’m the only one who has the cage in their photos.
 
Mine occasionally chew the bars but as they have plenty of space and plenty to gnaw at I know it’s either a demand to be fed or let out for floor time.
 
Thank you for the advice. I just expanded their cage thst day lol i converted to a two story cage (its pretty large for such small piggys lol. I also just put in a bunch of new chew toys so maybe its the attention thing or they could just be getting use to the new cage :) i just didnt know if metal cages can harm them if chewed on.
 
Mine chew but just Finn and not Lara. When Finn's cage gets too close to Lara's cage is when he starts chewing on the bars most vigorously. Finn and Lara live in separate cages.
He would also chew on the bars when I bring his herbs and he can't wait.
He has endless hay, toys, and sticks to chew on but whenever he sees Lara closely, he starts to chew vigorously.
 
Mine chew cage bars when they want a pea flakes, as soon as they have had pea flakes they stop lol x
