When I take my guinea pig out and put him down and start petting him or scratching his nose or whatever, he makes this chewing noise like he is eating food but he doesnt have any. I can hear his teeth grinding and he doesn't seem to be in distress but it is still kind of strange. He does this pretty well all the time if I pet him. Why

Is it like a teeth chattering noise? Because that can mean he's not liking something (someone correct me if I'm incorrect)

Guineas usually have some stuff in their mouth (ask any vet looking at their back teeth!) and chew. When he starts doing that, it is a sign that he is past the initial prey animal reflex of "dead/unresponsive piggy", but he's not quite completely relaxed yet; although that will come in time.

Yeah, that would make sense, I've only had him for a month or two now and he is still kind of jittery around me. Thanks.
