Last night when I was giving my guinea pigs their veggies I noticed one of my pigs was making a strange noise. It sounded like a strange breathing noise, and it was fairly loud. It wasn't really a wheezing noise, but almost like a grunt or something was in her throat. The next morning she was making the same sound, but it was gone within an hour. She has not made a sound since and she has been eating and running around normally. Called a few vets but I don't want to pay $100 just for them to tell me nothing's wrong.

If it has been just temporary one-off that has been gone in within a few hours, then you need not worry. It is likely just a minor short-term obstruction in the airways (like a bit of hay dust etc).

Please see a vet if it returns and stays.

Thank you!

One of my boys does this when he's gotten over-excited and yammed his hay down too fast, a quick cough usually clears it, followed by a long drink!
