Although I've got no plans at present to go on holiday, I'd quite like the security of knowing someone nearby who would take care of my piglets if I do go away in the future. Knowing someone who does "piggy pampering" (nail trimming, bathing etc) would also be great, too-I would like a lesson! (so far, my piggies nails are still quite short, so I've not cut them).

Does anyone offer this service around Leyton (North East London)?

None of my friends have guinea pigs, and I'd be a bit uneasy leaving them with someone who is not experienced with them as I know they can get ill and deteriorate so quickly if small signs are not picked up on.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Bailey. Not sure I'm keen on my piggies going to this one, though:

Breeds guinea pigs, hamsters, and rabbits :-S and even states that after 48hours of selling she is "no longer responsible for the animal" (seems very uncaring-almost encouraging the new owner to dump their pet if they realise they aren't suitable or change their mind).

I had trouble finding a local rescue to me when I wanted to re-home a pair of piggies, too. :-( perhaps they just aren't very popular in London!

I know, and the other one seems mainly aimed at dogs...

It's a shame you don't live closer, as your piglets look so well cared for! I love the fact that the owners can take home a CD of "holiday snaps" of their pet! Haha. I'd love to see my two trying to serenade a couple of girls, and ofcourse getting a bit rowdy in the holiday spirit! Haha.

Oh the owners love the holiday snaps cos I dont really say anything about them until they come and collect and they are very pleased with them.

oh piggies here are definitely spoilt. I treat them like my own. 'home from home' experience.

They even get educated as I'm doing a degree with Open University and just about to start my part 1 rodentologist too. I sit in the garage and piggy watch with my books lol

Such a shame you're so far! Good luck with your degree :-) How exciting!

I'm searching the net at the moment for a decent holiday home. I'll post it here if I find one. I don't even think there is even anyone on here in my area. I would have happily looked after a couple of extra piggies in exchange for knowing that mine would be well cared for if I needed to go away.

Changing the subject totally, I just had a phone call from my solicitor-contracts exchanged for my new flat! YIPPEE! (the piglets will now have their very own garden!).

oh a reputable loving person who would dearly care for my boys when i'm on holiday sounds fabulous

only wish there was someone near me (Morpeth, Northumberland) it would make going away for me so much more relaxing x

Maybe we should start another thread for people able to look after other piggies in exchange for theirs being cared for when going away? So people can be paired up with someone in their area? A couple of extra piggies for a week or two would be no bother to me :-) and you're right, it would make going away so much more easy and worry-free!

Congratulations on your new flat.

I am not all that far away from you (Redbridge area) but am new to piggies so wouldn't feel confident with looking after someone else's piggies at the moment.

We have looked after a couple of hamsters for friends on holiday this year. It is not as straight forward as it seems. I would have to know someone well enough to know that they would pick up the vet bills if their pigs became ill.

I hadn't thought of the issue of vet bills whilst away-I would have just paid in good faith that they would pay me back on their return if needed. You are right, though...

Hmmm I can see your point, I just looked at the photos of the boarding facilities too:o

I'm currently piggy sitting for a lady that Layla ( from North East Guinea Pig Rescue ) put in contact with me. She asked for volunteers who would be willing to watch peoples guinea whilst they're on holiday and seeing as we were going to be around I ( along with 9 others I think she said ) offered our services. She said its working out well so it's maybe something other rescues could think of doing?

I've put some pics up over in the photo thread of the set up I have put in place for the two I'm watching... as you can see they're getting just as spoilt as my own!

Bailey, it is quite concerning, isn't it? I don't know what it is with London. As I say, I really struggled to even find a rescue-centre (I ended up going to a breeder out of the area in the end, but found a really lovely one who I am still in contact with now-she still likes to know how the piggies are getting along).

I would be so concerned for anyone leaving their pets with this breeder, she seeems so uncaring. She even states in the terms/conditions that small animal boarding centres are not regulated, but she'll "do her best to look after your pet"...! I hate to think of the state of the poor animals when the owners pick them up...

Gem, that's a really good idea about rescues helping out with boarding by recommending people. I only wish there was something similar near by. There's no chance I'll be going on any holidays any time soon-I'm incredibly poor after the move! But it's still worth knowing someone who would take care of them-what if I go away for a weekend? or what if I had to stay in hospital for a few days? (I hate to tempt fate, but you never know what's going to happen).

Never had much luck looking online, either...hope I find something soon...

Hi if anyone in the North West is looking for a 5* piggy hotel whilst they go on holiday, move house, are in hospital etc then I run one. I'm just north of Manchester and provide home from home care for piggies (and other small pets) My website is on my profile if anyone is interested.
Just thought I'd mention it rolleyes

Thank you.

Built the website myself. very pleased with it.

PiggieWiggies is just fab. Its my place where I can sit and watch my piggies and the piggy holiday makers and piggy watch.... just love it.

Hi
I wouldnt worry about getting anyone too cut your guinea pigs nails. You can do it yourself! Just look up tutorials on youtube and buy some special cream and your ready to go! Its easier than you think! But dont cut them too short or your piggies wont be able to grip you and they may bleed! urggghhhh
