Guinea pig behavior after the death of a cage mate

I had two piggies till one died today from unknown causes. He was perfectly fine in the morning but died sometime before midday. The remaining pig seems to be unaffected by the death. He's eating, responding to pets like normal and drinking. They've only been together for about a year and before that the surviving pig was the only piggie in a family of animals that got along and had plenty of human attention. Is this normal behavior for a guinea pig if the dead cage mate wasn't around long?
