Hi everyone. I’m worried about my Guinea pig (Han solo) age 2.5. I noticed earlier this week he was starting to develop a bald spot on the top of his head. It is about half an inch long and skinny. He is always sitting under his ramp and I think it may be the cause because he is having no other issues than the missing hair. Still I want to make sure I’m not under reacting to the situation. I have a picture but couldn’t figure out how to upload onto the forum from my phone. The bald spot is relatively smooth and I’m not seeing scabbing or bumps. He has a cage mate (chewy) who is not exepriencing any hair loss or bald spots and doesn’t sit under the ramp as much. If it is mechanical abrasion should I switch cages for the time being to se if it heals? Thanks in advance for any advice!

You add a picture by pressing attach files under the message box. As you are a new member, the ’attach files’ may not be immediately present but it should be shortly once your registration completes.

We would always recommend a vet visit for a hands on check of any bald patch. Mechanical abrasion may well be the cause but you wouldn’t want to miss anything else which requires treatment.
