My guinea pig Paige, is 3 years old and has recently lost her sister due to dental problems (last week). I have noticed bald spots near her back legs area. I did google bald spots, and I think it might be down to barbering however I wanted the community input and get second opinion.

Hi, Sorry for the late reply. It does have stumble feel to it. I have noticed that the other side is starting to lose a bit of hair as well. I don't know if that's saying something. Ill check with a Vet about Ovarian Cyst. Would you say this can be treated by most Vets or would i need to go to a specific Guinea pig Vet?Hi!
I am very sorry for your loss.
Anyway I would recommend to have your vet checked for an ovarian cyst just to make sure that you are not overlooking something important. Self-barbering is one of these things where you need to make sure that there is no discomfort/pain in play. The loss can contribute as an added stress factor. The hair loss is in an area where ovarian cysts are located.
Please gently stroke with your finger over the bald area. If it is smooth, then it is most hormone related hair loss. If you can feel a little stubble, it is self-barbering (which can still be caused by the discomfort from a growing cyst).

The Vet we used for the Sister wasn't Pig savvy sadly. I live in Wiltshire, Swindon. What would be the best way to find a Pig savvy Vet?I think in this case it would be best to take piggy to a cavy savvy one. It’s past midnight here so all others are asleep.
Have you tried Drove Vets? The Vet we used for the Sister wasn't Pig savvy sadly. I live in Wiltshire, Swindon. What would be the best way to find a Pig savvy Vet?

Ill try Drove Vet then, we have been going to Shaw Vet however I don't think there as Pig savvy.Have you tried Drove Vets?
I went there before we moved last year.
I was very impressed with their knowledge and care
Brillant, thanks for the reply/ helpIt sounds like self-barbering in this case. I would try to contact the best piggy vet in your area if possible and see what they are saying.
It’s only the hospital that’s open at present - ask for Jacoba, Kiri or Hannah.Ill try Drove Vet then, we have been going to Shaw Vet however I don't think there as Pig savvy.
Just wanted to give a final update. I booked Paige into Drove Vet on Thursday 23rd , first for a check up (£48) which they said was an ovarian cysts. They wanted to do an xray (£130) just to make sure before they do the Spay. The results proved it was an ovarian cysts. She had her Spay (£100) on Tuesday 28th. She survived and is currently munching on some celery.
Overall I'm happy with how Drove Vet performed, they gave a detailed list of information on the do's and dont's. They rang me up today just to make sure, I also have an appointment to give Pictures to the Vet just so there happy on Friday. I will be going there in the future, £178 to find out the same answer I got on this forum, sucks but it was necessary to get closure.
The Vet also mentioned the cyst was small, so we managed to catch it early on.
Wroughton is the hospital so that is where all the specialist equipment is.hi after calling Marlborough Drove vets they informed me the Xrays are not done there only at Wroughton?
