We have brought a double decker hutch, it is quite big and spacious, but my GP's only ever use the "upstairs" department, I have made the "downstairs" as welcoming as poss, I have made sure it has a sheltered area, it has lots of toys down there, and i even put their food and water down there, but the still wouldn't go down there. Any advice/tips?

Put them in the bottom bit and see if they go upstairs?

Try putting their favourite treats on the "stairs" to see if that encourages them to go up and down it?

If its new they just make be very weary of it, so they just might need a big of time to get use to the idea.

We have had the hutch for 4months, we have tried the putting food, i even did a trail of choccy drops from the upstairs, down the ramp, all the way to the downstairs. They just ate the chocs upstairs, and left the ones on the ramp. Every day i put them downstairs, but they just run straight back upstairs.

My girls have a two tier cage and at first they wouldnt even consider going unstairs they have been in there since november and finally two of them will go upstairs they will do it of their own accord.
I'm sure it helped when I put a tunnel on the ramp so they felt safe!

My girls have a two tier indoor cage. When the first went in the ramp was too slidy for them so following advice from here I covered it with carpet (bargain carpet tile cut to fit) stuck down with double sided tape. I coaxed them upstairs with their favourite treat and now they run up and down it happily.

Thanks for the replies, I'm going to stick carpet to the ramp, and see if it that works.

Mine wouldn't use ramps either - until we adapted it so there was a side piece to it. now they love it!

I have a ramp for my piggies - They didn't use it till I put a brick under the bottom to make the incline less steep, and added more lats for grip. Now they're up and down all the time. Think carpet/tunnels very good idea too tho!
