Hi there!

My almost 3 yo male Gunther lost his pal Burt (who he lived next door to as Burt was a traumatised rescue we think, and attacked every other pig he met) about a month ago.

Today we took Gunther to a rescue to to be bonded with another male, he had a choice of 6 pigs. None of them worked sadly. I'm wondering, if he's met 7 male pigs and not bonded with either (the lovely rescue chap called him a serial humper if that sets the scene!), would you suggest neutering so we can try him with female pigs? Or anything else?

Gunther's a very interactive chap so I think he'd definitely benefit from living with another pig!

I’m sorry to hear things haven’t worked out.
If it was me in this situation, then yes I would neuter (have the six week wait) and find a suitable sow

Hi!

Gunther will continue to be a serious humper, even with sows, so you may have to look for a very submissive young sow or rather two for him to help him spread his fire power while still very accepting of boars but neutering is in these cases very much the way forward. He is still a good age for the operation.
You can find some very comprehensive information about neutering and neutering operations in this guide link here, which should answer many of your questions in that respect: Neutered / De-sexed Boars And Neutering Operations: Myths, Facts and Post-op Care

I have adopted several boars neutered at this age. ;)
