Hey fellow guinea friends,
I’m looking for some advice about my little guinea pigs eye.
Around 3 weeks ago I noticed my guinea with a weepy eye along with an awful smell to it, it also looked like he had an ulcer.
So he went straight to the vet and they confirmed it was indeed an ulcer and prescribed him chloramphenicol 3 times a day for 10 days. The vet also requested to see him 4 days after treatment as it was particularly weepy.
Straight away the drops were working wonders and the vet said it was going really well that he didn’t need to see him again but to just finish the recommended course.
I’ve noticed that the eye is starting to weep a bit and a slight smell still, however no signs of any ulcer like before.
I still have over half of the eye drop tube left and was wondering if I should continue for a while longer or do I take him back to the vet for further investigation?
His eye is open and bright apart from a little weepy at times and he is as energetic as ever, still eating and drinking fine.
Any advice would be greatfully received.

Thank you :)

I would go back to the vet and have it checked again to be on the safe side

It may be that the drop have not fully killed off any infection there, I agree, a return to the vets is needed x
