One of my guineas drips water when she drinks so there is a bowl under the water bottle. She pees/poops in the bowl. Then she drinks the pee/poop/water mix. Is this normal/healthy for her.

My two guineas have litter box. I have put litter in the bowl so that she won't drink it.

I would think some poo would be fine, too. i feel your frustration! I too have a 'poo' problem--my piggy sleeps in her poo. I don't understand why because she has a large cage (20 square ft with a fleece bedding). She sleeps in 2 places, the same 2 that she uses for the bathroom. I do not know how to change her behavior, and she always has poo on her nails. anyone have ideas?

I know I change my water in the dish every morning but I am going away from friday night til sunday afternoon was going to leave them by themselves, Its a usual situation when we go away. I always make sure they have the necessities before hand. Bugs has just recently started to drink out of the water bottle so I think its safe to leave them for 2 nights. Always have from time to time (not very often)

@ IHorseCarzzy5, what do you use for litter? I did start to use a litter box for a couple of days, and put white carefresh in it. But she started eating the Carefresh, and I just gave up really without trying. I'd like to try again... thanks!

Eco bedding is what I use. It's unbleached paper, and my pigs it eat. The litter keeps the pee on the bottom so they don't sit in pee.

I think it depends on the piggy. We have one fairly festidious pig who likes to poop in one place and keep his cage fairly tidy. The other likes to sleep in his own poop. He's even taken to pooping in his nice furry tube and then sleeping in there. I think if everywhere in the whole house was clean and one tiny corner had poop in it, he'd sleep in that corner!

Haha, I am glad Giggles is not alone in her poop behavior, it is quite yucky though! I am getting a second pig form a rescue tomorrow, I will be interested to eventually see what she does...

Had to bathe Biscuit today. He has digestion issues (long-standing) and he decided to lie in quite a soft poop today. Absolutely disgusting I know. Anyway, with all the dried poop on his nails and now this stain on his hair I decided enough was enough and he's literally just been dried after a good bath.

As usual, which is the real upside to Biscuit, he was a complete star. Even purred when getting shampooed and let me hairdryer him 'til he was nice and fresh. If he wasn't so poorly all the time and such a little slob, he'd be the world's best guinea pig. What am I saying? He's still the world's best piggy any way!

Don't worry, it will not harm her. When guinea pigs stick their head under their legs, they are often in fact eating their own poo!

In fact guinea pig waste is often important towards their health as it contains certain minerals!
