Hi all. I'm fairly new to guinea pigs. I've had my two since january. They were getting fairly tame. They didn't mind being picked up and relaxed on my lap. The last few days they've got panicky again and make rumbling noises when i go to touch them. What should i do? It's my instinct to let them be for a while but don't want them to get too feral.

Hi and WELCOME :D

Are you 100% sure they are both of the same sex :) This is a common mistake people get when buying 2 new piggies and they then end up with alot more than they bargained for, but presumably they are as you said youve had them since Jan so i guess they are ;D

Rumbling may be a dominance thing or a mating thing so just to be on the safe side i was just wandering ;)

I checked they were both girls. No humping. They just get very agitated when i go to pick them up and wriggle when i do pick them up. so i put them back.

Well, in that case the rumbling may be due to dominance or just being in season O0

Guinea pigs are all naturally frightened when someone goes to pick them up ~ All mine are too but when they are out they love it ;D Its just a matter of getting them out and then letting them relax on you otherwise the longer you leave them in their cages by giving up as you dont want to scare them the more scared there gonna get to be honest ;)

I would just take the cages top off or open the hutch door and offer them some veggies then gently stroke them and then pick them up and give them cuddles :smitten: they'll soon know who you are and will come to you more and more as they'll associate you with veggies knowing that you give them nice things ::) Ive had guinea pigs for years now and everyone of mine are different and they all act differently and some are more docile whilst some are more frightened yet i got some at the same time yet they are soo different so it does depend on the individual piggy :smitten:

Thank you. I'll try and give them some cuddles and carrots and see what happens.
