Haven't posted here for ages, so thought I'd reintroduce my piggy (as it were!)

Did have four guinea pigs when I first joined, but unfortunately lost three at differing times through this year. So now I've only got Chutney, a five year old boar, who can be a bit of a grump at times! Still love him, however, and he is staying with me until the end.

Chutney

He's coping okay. Looking into possibly getting him a new friend, but right now just keeping an eye on him. He's still stuffing his face with as much food as I can give him, so I think he's fine! I do miss the piggies I've lost, but still have him to look after.

i had a lone full boy for 3 years but he was crazy in a nice way. To be honest we many time thought about gettin him a mate to see but I'm being honest he was very happy alone.
He zoomed popped and was a very very active guy.
I know I perhaps should but I didn't. He would have been very aggressive . . hell he was a handful. I had plenty nips. xx

This thread called grumpy old man.
I went to the prem match Sunday Burnley v Arsenal. I'm a fan of both and my sister in law knitted me a scarf with both team colours and names on.
It's lovely and course I wore it to the match.
I took this photo the guy I was with comes under the title Grumpy Old Man. 20171126_134224.webp
He didn't find it funny.

I can understand that! Chutney was never aggressive towards Radish (his previous friend) but I do know that boar bonding can be tricky.

He's gorgeous!

Thank you!

I can only repeat was said above and offer my condolences for the three piggies you have sadly lost. But I would also like to say- welcome back! And Chutney is a stunning (if maybe a tad grumpy) boar who has lovely colouring! And nay I just say how much I love his name!

I hear bonding can be hard and emotionally hard. X I'm sure you and piggie will know what's best. x

It can. But you're right. If he starts seeming depressed, then I will start looking, but right now he seems happy enough pottering about.

Thank you for the welcome back! Yes, he is a stunner (really need to take a better photo of him) who doesn't really mind his name that much! I've always named my guinea pigs food-related names, so Chutney seemed right given his colouring.

Hello, welcome back to the forum. I love grumpy older boars, they have so much character. Chutney is lovely, I was just going to suggest boar dating at a rescue then saw where you are!

Thank you for the welcome back, and for saying Chutney is lovely! Yes, my location is a little bit disadvantaged. There is a rescue just on the other side of Truro from me, but they mostly neuter and send their boars out to live with females. I would consider neutering Chutney, but given his age, I'm not really sure it's worth it.

He's very handsome!
Was he grumpy though before he lost his companions or just since being on his own?
I had a lovely rescue piggy named CocoPops as similar colouring!

He's always been a little bit grumpy. Nothing too bad, just made it very clear when he'd had enough of something.

I think the rescue you mentioned may have closed? I did a lot of research into rescues in October when I needed a companion for my bereaved boar. I looked at Cornwall as I have family there and could have stayed for a few days while bonding was taking place. There was a rescue near Truro that had closed and Norman Gorman's are now a sanctuary and don't re-home. I had problems finding a rescue boar, as you say the rescues are now neutering young boars and bonding with females.

Ah, I see. Humm, far as I'm aware it hasn't. Might have closed temporarily, since I think they were having new rabbit enclosures/fencing built, but fairly certain they've since reopened. But yeah, not really living in a prime location for rescues.

This was the one I was thinking of: Marias Animal Shelter Probus, Registered Charity

Awww. chutney looks gorgeous. I love older piggies. They know who they are. They know what they like. They know how to control you. And occasionally they let you think you’re in charge. Handsome chappy.

Oh yes, he's certainly got me wrapped round his paw!

So sorry for your losses, Chutney is such a handsome chap
