our 6 year old sow now has a grubby patch on her bottom. It is greasy and not easy to clean with usual recommended products. I’m wondering if it could be to do with grease gland. She is otherwise activity, well and clean.

Hi and welcome

You can find our detailed tips re. overactive grease glands in this link here: Bathing (including cleaning grease glands)

Overactive grease glands are more common in boars but they can occasionally happen in sows, too; mainly in the way of a one-off event. Most of them will clean off the extra grease in their coats within a few days themselves but you may want to check the grease gland itself and clean it.

Please see a vet if the gland is inflamed/hot to the touch or as crusts that don't come off (growths).
