One of my male piggies was frankly beginning to smell as he constantly sits in his own wee, so today i decided to bum dip him.. While doing this, i found a bit matted bit of fur above his bump which was covered in god knows what.
He hates baths anyway, so to get this out was a real nightmare. Ive got some of it out, but then he bit me, so i hastily stopped. Ive now had to cut his fur from around that area? Any advice on how i can get this untangled and stop it tangling in the future?

I use baby talcum powder on Bee-Bop and Melonies bums and it soaks up the pee and stops it getting sticky ;)

The sticky bit you are talking about is probably his grease gland. Males tend to excrete a lot more than females. Does it look black, in a sort of circle and is it sticky? I had this problem with one of my sows and used to put vaseline on it for a few days to soften it and then try and remove as much as possible, I also cut the fur away so it didn't get stuck in it and tangled.

Yeah, thats it, a black sticky circle above his bum! A bloody nightmare. Ill try out the vaseline!

I have been told fairy liquid is good for removing the grease from the grease gland, but I've never tried it myself. I think you'd need to dilute it. Other than that, a good guinea pig shampoo around the area might help. I have heard that it can cause mites when it's not cleaned, but luckily my boys have been clean up to yet!
