Our piggies are 12 and 11 weeks old. Today when we came home from work, we found that the younger one, Tilly, was growling at Gizmo and kept chasing her (both female). It appeared that she was trying to mount Gizmo and Gizmo was having none of it...in fact getting very irritated with it. I kept an eye on it but Gizmo was getting more aggressive with Tilly as Tilly would not leave her alone.
Is Tilly's behaviour due to hormones of a young teenage female, is she completely insane and lost the plot or is this a dominance thing. They have been together since 3 weeks or so old and have got on superbly up until today. I'm worried that I may have to separate them.
Please help :'(

Sounds like she is in heat. My two older Sows were like this especially Fleur, over Christmas I found her mounting Flora and really going for it!...lol should be over by tomorrow! She will settle, I put it down to hormones during the teenage stage 6-9 months. She sounds like she is full of fun, don't worry. :)

Thanks for the reply. I wouldn't quite say she is full of fun as Tilly growls at people, food and anything else that comes near her. Gizzy on the other hand seems to really enjoy life...funny how two piggies can be so different.
Interestingly, we have separated them for 30 mins and as long as Tilly has the cage, she seems to settle down. If Gizmo has the cage and Tilly has the pig pen, Tilly still growls. That is what makes me wonder whether it is dominence thing. But you could well be spot on with your comments, we'll have to wait and see. would you suggest we keep them apart for the next 24 hours or put them together and let them sort it out? :'(

I wouldnt seperate as they are not actually fighting, as Louise says, she may be in heat. Are you positive they are both sows?

Sounds like Fleur to be honest her sister Flora is great fun but Fleur was a nark, I got 2 babes to put with my older Sows and it has seemed to have calmed Fleur down like she is playing mum and now Flora has someone to play with rather than Fleur bossing her about!

I wouldn't seperate unless they had a huge fight as in ball of fluff. Does she rumble and sway her hips. I notice Fleur sits a lot when in heat. Fleur is 9 months now and she doesn't do it as much anymore. :)

jessie is 1.7 years old and she does this to zoe everytime jessie is on heat, vet saids is is cause jessie is on heat and also a dominence thing too. cause i have NEVER seen zoe do this to either jessie or choloe and we have had zoe since 8 weeks of age. so if this behaviour is a teenage thing why oh why hasn't jessie out grown it? luckily for zoe , zoe had surgery and has a cooling rack seperating them. :smitten: :smitten: jessie still when on heat rattles, wobbles rump and tries to get to zoe, usually takes jessie 2 days to cool down. hoping things sort out for you and your girls. hugs and cuddles :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: girls send :-* :-* :-*

Tilly is definitely rumbling swaying hips and makes a beeline for Gizmo straight away and won't leave her alone. She has tried biting her neck but not left any marks. Currently it has calmed down only cause I separated them but it will all kick off again if we put them back together and I'm at work all day tomorrow and don't want to come back to an injured piggy. what do I do! :-\

Hi again
Just wanted to say thanks for all of the advice. We kept them together and Tilly has calmed right down and is back to normal...in fact better than normal as she even licked my hand today for about a minute rather than the usual bite. ;D :D :smitten:
Much happier today....all of us!
